The Portnoy clarinet mouthpiece has been the most recommended step-up mouthpiece since its release.
The BP02 model is the personal choice of Bernard Portnoy - Instructor, Juilliard School of Music;
Former Instructor, Curtis Institute of Music; Former Solo Clarinetist, Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras,
Professor of Music (Ameritas), Indiana University. The Portnoy mouthpieces are the masterpiece of renowned
clarinetist Bernard Portnoy. His mouthpieces are of a unique design. Rather than taking generic mouthpiece blanks
and giving them a custom facing, Portnoy has created a new and innovative mouthpiece chamber design that uses
four different tooling processes to complete. Years of research went into the design of these fine mouthpieces.
Leopold Stokowski, conductor of the American Symphony Orchestra, acclaimed the work of Bernard Portnoy in
April 1963 stating; "The new type of clarinet
mouthpiece that you have developed is a most important step forward for clarinet playing all over the world,
particularly from the standpoint of tone quality.- These independent mouthpieces have been in use for decades
in universities and concert halls across the world."
